Splatter Screens That Fit the Pan and Handle Route
Compare supported pan diameters, rim seating and folding-handle storage before buying a splatter screen.
We have not performed hands-on testing of the products discussed. Manufacturer references and official guidance support the documented information below; comparison exercises are our editorial guidance.
A splatter screen sits over a supported cooking vessel while allowing the documented process to continue. It is a different accessory from a solid lid and should not be treated as interchangeable with one. Begin with the pans used most often, then check the rim shape, handle position and cleaning routine before choosing a broad universal-looking screen.
Match the actual pan opening
OXO's folding-handle splatter-screen information describes a particular perforated product and its supported use. Compare the stated pan fit with the pan's upper opening, not the induction-base diameter or the brand's nominal family name. A domed, flared or unusually deep rim can change seating. Make a paper outline of the screen beside the pan to visualize overhang without placing unsupported material near heat. A screen that merely balances across two points is not a documented stable fit.
Check handle direction and nearby cookware
Read how the screen handle is positioned during use and whether its folding feature is for storage only or also for a supported operating position. Compare that route with the pan handle and neighboring burners. Keep the manufacturer's heat and flame restrictions in view; a screen fitting a frying pan does not establish permission for every hob setting or appliance. A folding joint must not require reaching over hot cookware to compensate for an unsuitable arrangement. Preserve the ordinary route for handling the pan safely.
Distinguish venting from a solid lid
A perforated screen and a pan lid create different documented cooking arrangements. Choose the accessory required by the recipe and equipment instructions rather than assuming a screen can provide covered steaming or another lid-dependent process. Likewise, do not promise complete elimination of splashes from a product title. This guide does not independently measure splatter reduction. The useful comparison asks whether the intended supported screen function is actually missing from the kitchen and whether it fits the pan without obstructing normal access.
Read washing and storage requirements
Perforations and the handle joint need an approved cleaning method. Check dishwasher permission and the space needed to wash the full circular screen in the sink. Its flat body can fit a narrow storage slot, but the handle or hinge may require more depth than the photograph suggests. Buy when a repeated supported pan task justifies the accessory. Skip a second screen if an existing one already fits the actual pans, or when the desired task calls for the pan's proper solid lid. Keep the exact diameter and care instructions with the cookware notes.
Compare the trade-offs
| Approach | Useful when | Trade-off to check |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed-handle screen | The supported pan and drawer space fit its outline | Measure handle projection as well as screen diameter. |
| Folding-handle screen | A documented compact storage arrangement is useful | Read joint and operating-position instructions. |
| Proper pan lid | The recipe requires a solid covered arrangement | A perforated screen is a different accessory. |
Your purchase checklist
- Measure the pan upper opening and rim shape.
- Check screen supported diameter range.
- Trace handle clearance beside neighboring cookware.
- Read heat and operating-position limits.
- Plan perforation cleaning and stored hinge depth.
